PTI Social Media thanks Umar Murtaza for his amazing tenure as Social Media Secretary and a decade of activism in PTI. There is a saying ke “yeh baal dhoop mein nahi safaid kiye”, that applies well to Umar Murtaza. He has grown up and grown old with PTI activism; he started from 2008 at membership camps on Murree road in Rawalpindi and then in Dharna’s against drone attacks in places like Peshawar. He recalls working for PTI right after coming back from work at 6pm and then working with his fellow activists until late night for several years. Umar has a lot of “firsts” associated with his name, here are a few:
1. He started the PTI TV Programs SMS’s across Pakistan (sent up to 200,000 sms messages a month across Pakistan)
2. He served as Information Secretary for PP9 (Rawalpindi District) constituency
3. Recorded and posted PTI TV shows on the Internet to create awareness
4. Created a PTI YouTube playlists for different topics
5. Created a process for PTI Jalsa coverages on Social Media
6. As an IT expert, he was able to use open source tools and IT procedures that negated the need to spend any money for Jalsa coverage on Social Media
7. He (along with few more pioneers) started Live Video Coverage of PTI Jalsas
8. He worked on PTI’s first website (insaf.pk) and continued to play a leading role for 10 years
9. He created the PTI Social Media team in Islamabad
10. He served as the first official PTI Social Media Secretary appointed by Chairman Imran Khan
Other than the tangibles, Umar Murtaza led the culture of PTI’s Official Social Media Team. The ethics, the tone and the use of language in posts has been transferred to the new generation and we are proud to say that our team has always argued with logic and served PTI’s interest per the direction of Chairman Imran Khan. His hard work has inspired hundred of young inductees in the team since 2008. Thank you Umar Murtaza for your decade of service for PTI, it will never be forgotten.
Umar will stay in Social Media Team and serve as an advisor and work on strategic projects for General Election 2018 campaign.
