SUMMARY OF PTI CHAIRMAN IMRAN KHAN MEETING WITH PRESS - JUNE 30 2008 | Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
<div style="margin: 0px; min-height: 14px;"> <div>The press conference was held at the Bank of England Sports Centre in UK on June 30 2008 with all the major TV channels and media. &#160;The press conference was focused on&#160;denouncing the Pakistans policy on the War on Terror.&#160;</div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>Mr. Khan said that ""the American policy has not been successful especially the deployment of Pakistan Army (a professional institution) being deployed in the remote areas starting in 2004. Now our troops are all across the 1500 mile border fighting our own people""&#160;</div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>He said that ""we are fighting someone elses war in our country against our own people. &#160;If we carry on like using our Army to fight our own people, then Pakistan will be ruined - we should not come under American pressure.&#160;War and fighting and deploying troops in these border areas is not a solution. We need dialogue and negotiation - not just for 6 months but for a longer period of time so that things can start getting back to being normal. &#160;</div> <div>People say that dialogue has failed - well when did it start. &#160;We need to win our people over with dialogue - look at Northern Ireland and Hizbolalh examples. &#160;The American pressure is not to continue with dialogue and this is having a negative impact on the war on terror. &#160;</div> <div>I urge the new government of Mr. Yusuf Reza Gillani to keep the dialogue going and to not succumb to American pressure. If we do then we are putting our countrys future at risk. &#160;&#160;</div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>He also spoke about the Feb elections, "the present government is wasting the democracy mandate that was given to them, i.e. the Chief Justice has not been restored. &#160;We are being ruined as a country because of the NRO - our judges are not being restored due to this NRO. We are rewarding the PCO judges and punishing the judges who stood against the establishment.""</div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>He ended his meeting by stressing the need to continue to struggle for an independent judiciary and the rule of law as we maybe democratic but the social economic justice will not take place. With law and governance the country will progress. &#160;With the roti, kapada and makaan nara and promise there seems to have been no improvement in the country. Mr. Khan also highlighted that the Long March has not lost its momentum and there are clear next steps that APDM has outlined with partnership with the lawyer community.</div> <div><span style="font-size: 10px;"><br /> </span></div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>REPORTED BY RABIA ZIA</div> <div>UK Coordinator for PTI</div> <div><span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px; word-spacing: 0px; text-transform: none; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-indent: 0px; line-height: normal; font-style: normal; white-space: normal; letter-spacing: normal; border-collapse: separate; font-variant: normal;"> <div style=""><span style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px; word-spacing: 0px; text-transform: none; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-indent: 0px; line-height: normal; font-style: normal; white-space: normal; letter-spacing: normal; border-collapse: separate; font-variant: normal;"> <div style=""> <div><a href="mailto:ukpti@insaf.pk">ukpti@insaf.pk</a></div> <div><a target="_blank" href="http://www.insaf.pk/">www.insaf.pk</a></div> <div>&#160;</div> <div>VIDEO&#160;</div> </div> </span></div> </span> <div><a target="_blank" href="http://pkpolitics.com/2008/06/30/imran-khan-press-conference-on-military-action/">http://pkpolitics.com/2008/06<wbr></wbr>/30/imran-khan-press-conference<wbr></wbr>-on-military-action/</a></div> </div> </div>
