PPP AND PMLN’S ANTI DONALD TRUMP STANCE EXPOSED
Trump’s victory in the U.S. elections is nothing short of a historic win, defying expectations and overcoming intense opposition. While Americans celebrate or react, here in Pakistan, a different kind of spectacle is unfolding. The very politicians sitting in government on a stolen mandate, who built their narrative on anti-Trump rhetoric, are now scrambling to reverse their stance, rushing to congratulate and flatter Trump now that it’s clear he will be returning to power.
Just a few days ago, many of these leaders, from the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), were openly criticizing Trump and rooting for Kamala Harris and the Democrats. Their social media profiles were filled with statements mocking Trump’s leadership style, believing firmly that he will not return to power. Many of them made predictions, confidently claiming that Kamala Harris and the Democrats would have a sweeping victory. Yet, against all odds, Trump has emerged victorious, and suddenly, these parties in power have turned on a dime.
This shows the true colors of Pakistan’s ruling elite. The same people who once disparaged Trump and ridiculed him publicly are now backpedaling, deleting old tweets and statements critical of him, and flooding social media with congratulations and admiration. It’s almost comical to witness their desperation to align themselves with the winning side. In a span of mere hours, their narrative has shifted entirely, as if they’ve forgotten all the derogatory comments they made about him in the past. From hailing Trump’s win as a ‘victory for democracy’ to praising his 'remarkable resilience,' they’ve transformed into ‘model admirers,’ singing his praises and congratulating him.
The Defense Minister, the Chief Minister of Punjab, the heads of PML-N and PPP, and other key leaders of PMLN and PPP are all implicated in this flip-flop. In the past, they’ve had no shortage of disparaging remarks about Trump, labeling him a dangerous, divisive figure, and even compared Imran Khan, who is their biggest adversary, to Trump. They coined the term ‘Pakistan’s Trump’ for Imran Khan as an insult, aiming to undermine his leadership by associating him with Trump’s policies and persona. But now, the same people who once vilified Trump are scrambling to project loyalty, praising his leadership and resilience.
The irony couldn’t be clearer. In their rush to delete past posts and reframe their views, they’ve only highlighted the depth of their own hypocrisy. They’ve exposed themselves as political opportunists, ready to shift allegiances the moment the winds change direction. Below, you’ll find some of their past statements attacking Trump, and statements where they mockingly called Imran Khan ‘Pakistan’s Trump.’ The stark contrast between those statements and their current praise for Trump shows just how shallow their commitment to any ideology truly is.
This is a reminder that these leaders are not committed to principles or the people—they’re committed to staying in power, even if it means reversing their stances overnight. Their lack of integrity has never been more visible.
However, some stayed silent hiding the embarrassment, while one very important government minister decided to escalate the attack by calling Trump a liar and accusing him of resorting to illegal activities. Ary News
Speaking during ARY News programme,Rana Sanaullah Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs compared the United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, citing what he termed ‘similarities’ in their style of politics.
Rana Sanaullah said that both Imran Khan and Donald Trump are ‘known for spreading falsehoods, mocking others and attacking institutions’.
“There are many similarities between them (Imran Khan and Donald Trump) like lying, making fun of others, and resorting to illegal activities for the acceptance of their demands. He (Donald Trump) gathered his supporters and attacked the White House,” the special assistant to the prime minister on political affairs said.
To a question regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s felicitation statements for to the US president-elect, Rana Sanaullah said that was ‘just a mere diplomatic gesture and formality’.
When asked as if the federal government would release Imran Khan on the US demand, Rana Sanaullah, ‘I do not believe the US government will do so’.
“In my personal opinion, Imran Khan should be handed over to the US, if Donald Trump wishes so that these two brother can work together. If the US wants, it can take Imran Khan in exchange for Aafia Siddiqui’s release and the nation would probably agree on it,” Rana Sanaullah said.
