Open Letter by 200 Members of the Oxford Community in Support of Imran Khan
Over the past week, nearly 200 Oxford’s alumni, staff members, and current students have come together to petition the Chancellor's Committee, urging them to allow Former Prime Minister Imran Khan to run for Oxford Chancellor.
The letter emphasizes Khan's contributions as a global leader. In the letter, the members of the University of Oxford’s student and faculty community, as well as its global alumni network, welcomed Imran Khan's candidacy for the esteemed position of Chancellor, emphasizing that Mr. Khan has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service, inspiring numerous Oxford students by virtue of his leadership.
As per the letter Imran Khan, an Oxford graduate, led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. He founded Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, providing free cancer treatment to over 70% of patients, and Namal University to expand education in rural areas. As Chancellor of the University of Bradford, he served for nine years, inspiring students and faculty. He launched the Ehsaas program to fight poverty using technology and spearheaded the Billion Tree Tsunami initiative, successfully planting over a billion trees to combat climate change.
The members asked the committee to ensure that all candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are provided the opportunity to participate in this election, which will uphold the integrity of the democratic process. The expressed confidence that the Election Committee will enable Imran Khan to present his vision to Oxford’s esteemed members of Convocation.
