Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Amin Ud Din Khan
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has written letters to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, and the head of the constitutional bench, Justice Amin Ud Din Khan, urging the Supreme Court to exercise its constitutional authority to safeguard the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.
Since the regime change operation in April 2022, Pakistan has remained in a constant state of suppression, with basic human rights being trampled. Democracy is nonexistent, and the rule of law has been effectively suspended. The regime has weaponized state institutions against its own citizens, leading to blatant human rights violations. Fundamental rights such as freedom of speech, the right to a fair trial, the right to peaceful protest, and the right to vote have all been systematically denied.
In his letter Former Prime Minister and head of the biggest political party, Imran Khan says:
“Several petitions highlighting the assault on fundamental human rights and the electoral process have been filed over the last eighteen months and more before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
These petitions have sought the Supreme Court of Pakistan to exercise the power vested in it by the Constitution of Pakistan to safeguard the constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan. When all organs and agencies of the state that are mandated by the law to exercise power in order to safeguard life, liberty and democracy stand subjugated by brute force and are acting in aid of persecution and fraud, it is the duty of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to intervene. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has not been vested with enormous power by the Constitution of Pakistan in order to act as a bystander.
Unfortunately, none of the petitions filed before this Honourable Court, including by me, have been taken up. This has allowed a free hand to a reign of brutality and fraud.”
