6th January 2024 News Headlines

A summary of today's important and breaking news regarding PTI and the country that the mainstream media of Pakistan will never show you.

The record-breaking popularity of Imran Khan's article published in "The Economist” makes the Expired Caretaker Information Minister uneasy.

After the article published in "The Economist" by Imran Khan, his international popularity has put so much pressure on the expired caretaker Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, that he announced in his tweet to write a letter to this international journal against Imran Khan. The inappropriate tweet against Imran Khan by Murtaza Solangi demonstrated his lack of impartiality as the Caretaker Information Minister. This single tweet laid bare the minister's bias, sparking public outrage on social media. The public response served as a reflection, reminding him that oppression and fascism persist in Pakistan, with his government playing a role in it. People also corrected the misconception that they don't control all global media outlets as they do in Pakistan.

Returning Officers who disqualified PTI candidates lack credibility themselves.

In North Punjab, the reinstatement of all rejected papers occurred through the levying of baseless allegations, prompting the courts to question the eligibility of these Returning Officers to oversee elections. The Sindh High Court also raised questions on the qualifications of the returning officers.

Judge Adnan Al Karim Memon of the Election Tribunal gave strong remarks on the qualifications of the returning officers. "Is there a deliberate effort to obstruct candidates from participating in the elections? It appears that the Returning Officer summarily dismissed the nomination papers. Preventing individuals from contesting elections should not be based solely on unfounded cases."

Justice Adnan Al Kareem Memon had an interesting dialogue with the candidates and lawyers, "Go, sir, go and prepare to contest the election."

Senate resolution to postpone the election deemed a shameful act by PTI.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf core committee’s press release, the call from a few Senate members to delay the national election was deemed equally regrettable. As of early March, a significant portion of the senators will retire upon completing their terms, rendering the Senate an incomplete institution. This situation raises concerns about the state of democracy in the Pakistani system. Moreover, the resolution was presented during a session where only a few members were present, and the quorum was not met. Additionally, it is noteworthy that those who previously endorsed the Parliament's tactics under the PTI government to avoid holding elections in Punjab and KPK are now opposing this resolution. Back then, they were criticizing the Supreme Court and supporting individuals involved in illegal activities, but their stance has now shifted.

Tehreek-e-Insaf's declaration of parliamentary session regarding election tickets.

According to the spokesperson of Tehreek-e-Insaf, "Following the directives of the founder chairman Imran Khan, a comprehensive review of matters about the allocation of tickets for the upcoming general elections has been undertaken. All arrangements for the conduct of the general elections on February 8, including the final lists of ticket holders for the National and Provincial Assembly, have been concluded. Despite significant challenges, such as state aggression and interference in the electoral process, candidates have shown commendable efforts in submitting and securing approval for their nomination papers on a large scale. We strongly denounce the unconstitutional, illegal, and undemocratic resolution passed by the Senate of Pakistan calling for the postponement of the elections.

All state institutions must take effective measures to ensure the timely, transparent, and fair execution of the general elections on February 8, while upholding their constitutional responsibilities".

An attempt underway to involve Imran Khan in May 9th cases.

Regarding the May 9 incident, Imran Khan has been summoned to appear in court on January 9. The court has also included other cases in the summons, including the charge of GHQ attack. It remains uncertain whether Imran Khan will be brought to court from jail or if the judge will conduct the proceedings within the jail premises.

Chairman Imran Khan's dialogue with Election Commission members.

Imran Khan said while addressing the members of the Election Commission. "Your department is currently grappling with immorality. I have never witnessed such a biased Election Commission before. Following the announcement of the general elections, there was a notable display of rigging and brutality, to which you opted to remain silent. The rejection of the nomination papers of nearly 900 candidates from our party serves as clear evidence of the Election Commission's partiality. There exists a legal procedure for addressing any accusations, yet in this case, the situation is quite the opposite. It is absurd that my indictment occurred in the absence of media coverage. I propose that the presence of the media should be mandatory for the next appearance. I implore you to confirm under oath whether you believe you are administering justice from your current position".

Fascism continues against PTI leaders and workers.

Hundreds of PTI workers and supporters are in prison in fake cases for many months and are waiting for justice. Currently, the Higher Courts are occupied with the task of lifting the disqualification of a wanted offender. Numerous individuals, despite their innocence, have been separated from their children for eight months, and their pleas for a fair hearing remain unheard. Dr Yasmin Rashid, Sanam Javed, Alia Hamza, Tayyaba Raja, Fehmeeda Begum, Samia Asad, Parvez Elahi, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, Mian Mehmood Rashid, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Ejaz Chaudhry, Ibad Farooq, Hassan Niazi, Haleem Adil Sheikh, and Many PTI leaders including Umar Dar are among them.

Social media warriors expose Murtaza Solangi, the caretaker Information Minister by sharing his old tweet which shows a conflicting position.

In 2019, Murtaza Solangi advocated for considering the interview of the convicted as a fundamental right. During that period, his unofficial role involved defending Nawaz Sharif, who was convicted of crimes.

In 2024, with his role transitioned, he asserted that writing an article while being in jail was incorrect. Notably, Imran Khan has not faced a conviction, and his sentence has been suspended. This highlights the notion that our left-leaning intellectuals seemingly have a consistent allegiance to government positions.

Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi's health deteriorated in jail, shifted to the hospital.

Today, due to the deteriorating health in prison, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi was relocated from the jail to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC). Reports indicate that he underwent a thorough medical examination, including necessary tests. He was moved to the Institute of Cardiology due to complaints of heart pain and a chest infection. Last week, his thallium test at RIC yielded clear results. If the subsequent test report proves positive, he will be returned to the jail. Hospital sources also confirm that an MRI of his brain was conducted.
