Sheikh Waqas Akram is a politician and the Information Secretary of Pakstan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Born in Jhang, his father, Sheikh Muhammad Akram is also a politician and member of PTI. Waqas’ significant political career started in PML-Q where he twice served as a minister between 2008 and 2012. During his time as a minister, he held a presence on the international stage including a seat for Pakistan at the United Nations. He created a YouTube channel and established a presence on TV talk shows and the news, even interviewing PTI members.

Sheikh Waqas joined PTI in 2022, after declaring allegiance to the Haqeeqi Azadi March and the PTI Manifesto. He supported PTI in the June 2022 Jhang by-polls. Waqas contested in the 2024 General Elections from NA 109-II Jhang on a PTI ticket, holding a Charpai symbol due to the stealing of the bat election symbol. Waqas’ campaign focused on the youth of Jhang and gained significant popularity due to his campaign and Imran Khan’s struggle.

Waqas was elected as a PTI Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Jhang by 176,586 votes, defeating the runner up of PML-N by a large margin greater than 100,000. Waqas was nominated for the position of Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) by Imran Khan in May 2024 but was replaced by Junaid Akbar. On 26 September 2024, Imran Khan appointed Waqas as Information Secretary of PTI replacing Raoof Hasan. His appointment comes at a time where social media is critical as a voice to many Pakistanis over their stolen mandate given to PTI and Waqas active in holding press conferences.
