Gohar Ali Khan is a prominent constitutional lawyer, barrister, politician and a member of PTI since 2022. Imran Khan chose Gohar Ali for the trusted position of Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on December 2, 2023. Prior to this role, Gohar Khan served as the PTI's chief election commissioner from July 15, 2023, until November 30, 2023. As a seasoned attorney, Gohar Khan has provided legal counsel to Imran Khan, as the chair of PTI in various legal matters. He is a skilled barrister and has studied law at many levels in law universities in the United Kingdom. He has represented PTI as chairman in turbulent times.
He was born born on April 15, 1971, in Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a Pashtun family of the Yusufzai tribe. His father, Abdur Rauf Khan, originally from Buner, served twice as a member of the Provincial Assembly of the North-West Frontier Province and was the first ever legislative member of the Parliament from Buner.
Before joining PTI in 2022, Gohar Ali Khan was affiliated with the Pakistan People's Party for five years. As an attorney, he played a significant role in the Lawyers' Movement in 2007, a widespread protest movement against the unconstitutional suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Gohar Khan moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his LLB degree at the University of Wolverhampton in 1997. He was then called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in 2001 due to his legal skill. He also obtained his LLM degree at the University of Washington School of Law in 2004.
Gohar Khan remains at the top of PTI's leadership as he represents PTI while Imran Khan remains unlawfully jailed for more than a year. He is remarkable for his commitment to justice, skill in law, and being the PTI Chairman in times where the PTI is undergoing immense crackdown. He regularly holds press conferences, is a top lawyer in Pakistan, and is trusted by Imran Khan to deliver as per the PTI Manifesto. He is also a key member in representing PTI in judicial matters in the highest appelate court of Pakistan, the Supreme Court.
