Dr Arif Alvi met UK elected teams July 01, 2012 ? London: This afternoon PTI members and representatives of elected bodies from all over UK welcomed Dr Alvi at Heathrow airport. Despite it being a Sunday afternoon, there were a large number of PTI supporters and office bearers at the airport to receive Dr Alvi. Dr Arif Alvi then met the UK elected bodies and members of ?London Event Committee? at a Central London location. Dr Alvi said that he was looking forward to meet the elected bodies as this was his first visit to UK since the elections here. He said that overseas Pakistanis are our greatest asset and PTI consider its overseas chapters very important for the whole movement. He said that due to the inter-party elections in Pakistan and increase in other political activities, party is relying on the support of its overseas chapters more than ever. He appreciated the fact that in a very small time, since the elections in UK; the elected bodies have worked hard and have organised a lot of successful events to increase awareness in the UK. He was delightful to learn that membership campaigns in all UK regions is generating good results and hoped to double the membership numbers in next six months. He also asked the members and office bearers to share their ideas and plans for the future of PTI UK and Pakistan. PTI London president Asim Khan briefed Dr Alvi about the UK chapter?s progress and future plans. Asim Khan explained the Dr Alvi how PTI UK is making small teams of volunteers in each city to hold membership campaigns and raise funds for the party. Other members asked a lot of questions regarding the party elections in Pakistan and overall progress party is making. Dr Alvi said that since the party elections in UK and US, CEC has learned a lot and have devised distance voting system in Pakistan too. He explained how the voting process would work via phone and how the leadership in each union council will be chosen. Dr Alvi said that successful elections in the party will start a new trend in not only Pakistan?s politics but also in the whole region. Dr Alvi gave an insight into Pakistan politics and challenges of the future. He said that a lot of work needs to be done before the next general elections and asked the UK teams to keep up their work for the party. Dr Alvi being one of the pioneering members of the party told the members how during the last 16 years, the passion to redevelop Pakistan and the fight against corruption kept the party focused and was the main driving force behind the recent success of PTI. "Dr Alvi stated that Mr Justice Shaiq Usmani is undertaking the task of looking at the fairness of the Election process and the party has full confidence in him. None of the activities of during visits of the leadership including that of the Secretary General should be construed in any manner prejudicial to the inquiry process". Sec General was also briefed about the different events being organised by PTI UK Elected Bodies in London, South East, South West, East of England, North West, Yorkshire & Humberside region and also of all the media interviews.
