Chairman PTI Imran Khan's Legal Team Member Shair Afzal Khan Marwat Press Conference in Islamabad - 9th August 2023
Mr. Marwat speaks about his court proceedings in different cases including Shehryar Afridi's Case:
- I went to Rawalpindi High Court for Mr. Sheryar Afridi’s case. (This was) Lahore High Court's (Rawal)Pindi bench. There I was sitting in the courtroom where I received a WhatsApp message with an FIR (police report).
- This police report is lodged by Attock Police, on a request from Deputy Superintendent Jail – citing that when we went (to Jail to meet Imran Khan) we engaged in a physical fight and tore (people’s) clothes.
- Chairman of PTI has similar police reports against him. We didn’t even have a verbal altercation with anyone. We are not at an age where we (will get emotional and) brawl with policemen. We know better than this.
- It's saddening that the jail's Superintendent and DPO [Deputy Police Officer] Dr. Ghayas Gul became touts of the company [military establishment], and on their behest these (bogus) cases were filed against us.
- Dr. Ghayas Gul called me a little while ago – let me tell you the exact time. And because he has been deputed to Islamabad as SP [Superintendent of Police] and SSP [Senior Superintendent of Police] for a while now – so he called me at 1:15 pm – and I got to know about two things from his call:
- First, his wife, who is a DMG [District Management Group] officer, she wanted to take (unlawful) possession of a house here, (hence there was) a legal case where I was representing the other party. And I didn’t let her take the said possession.
- Second, he [Dr. Ghayas] has usurped a piece (of land) illegally, which has been challenged by a PSP [Police Service of Pakistan] Officer whom I am representing in court.
- This was a special “good deed” done to (the PSP Officer). So he [Dr. Ghayas] is also the respondent in this case and I represent his opponent's party.
- He referred to all this and said that now you must have an idea (why we have framed you). I told him that, sir I don’t have knowledge of such petty things but you wouldn’t have the guts to be able to lodge a police complaint against me, had it not been for the same people backing you up who are lodging police reports all across Pakistan these days.
- He tried to threaten me over the phone, which is why I have put in a request to lodge a police complaint at the Secretariat Police Station for threatening me, under Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act.
The Laywers community annouced to observe 10th August 2023 as a black day, condemning the harrassment of PTI laywers through fake and bogus cases and threats. This is a blatant human right violation and must be condemned at every level.
