PTI Press Release – Election in 90 Days
- Conducting elections in the constitutional period of 90 days is a constitutional requirement, the duty of the Election Commission and the fundamental right of the people.
- The state is subject to the constitution and the constitution makes the free will of the people the basis of the political and governmental system.
- Suspension of any article or part of the Constitution is tantamount to suspension of the entire Constitution, which is a serious offence.
- The constitution does not give any authority to any state institution, alone or in association with others, to take any decision contrary to its purpose regarding elections.
- The provisions of the Constitution regarding the five-year term of the elected assemblies and the timely or premature dissolution of these assemblies are categorical and clear.
- The Constitution mandates holding of elections within 90 days in case of premature dissolution of the Assembly, which has been interpreted by the Supreme Court, approved by the President.
- The Election Commission and the caretaker government have only 34 days left to conduct the elections as per the constitution.
- In his letter to the Election Commission, the President has suggested November 9 as the date for the elections.
- If the constitution is violated by avoiding the holding of elections within ninety days, then the election commission and caretaker prime minister along with his cabinet will be entitled to take action under article 6.
- Honorable Chief Justice should prevent the violation of the Constitution prematurely and make the Election Commission and the caretaker government bound by the Constitution.
- The nation will not accept any attempt to postpone the right of people to vote for an indefinite period.
