PTI Core Committee Meeting
- An important meeting of the core committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) considered important issues regarding ongoing hearings of fabricated cases against Chairman Imran Khan, including the cipher case, in various courts.
- The core committee appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take immediate cognizance of attempts to deprive Chairman Imran Khan of his fundamental right to a fair trial and of his political victimization, in an attempt to exclude him from elections by illegal and undemocratic means due to his continuing public popularity.
- Chairman Imran Khan is being illegally targeted in baseless and fraudulent cases, which are being conducted with undue haste without waiting for relevant decisions of the superior judiciary.
- The nation will not accept yet another travesty of justice akin to what was seen in Tosha Khana trial.
- The core committee also requested the Supreme Court to immediately hear and decide petitions about the holding of general elections within ninety days of dissolution of the National Assembly as mandated by the constitution.
- The Election Commission has already violated the Constitution previously in the matter of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. In view of the popularity of Imran Khan and PTI among the people, preparations are being made to violate the constitution by not holding elections within the constitutionally mandated ninety-day period.
- The Supreme Court must intervene, in order to fulfill its constitutional duty of protecting the Constitution, and obligate the Election Commission and caretaker governments to conduct timely elections.
- The Supreme Court must ensure the caretaker governments refrain from involvement in matters beyond their jurisdiction, including privatization, and to hand over power to elected representatives of the people within ninety days.
- Pakistan's economic development is linked to political stability and can only be achieved by an elected government with the people's mandate. Postponing elections and insisting on decision-making about national issues through an unelected government will lead to economic and political instability.
- The contents and background of the recent television interview of central PTI leader Usman Dar was also reviewed in detail by the committee, which called on the Supreme Court of Pakistan to prevent violations of human rights and to restore the fundamental constitutional rights of citizens.
- The core committee also demanded the immediate release of other abductees who are victims of enforced disappearance. The political strategy of PTI was also considered in the meeting and important decisions were taken.
