Upholding Human Dignity: Imran Khan’s Plea for Compassionate Treatment of Afghan Migrants

In a poignant message, Founder Chairman Imran Khan has voiced his concern about the treatment of Afghan migrants, emphasizing that such practices contradict the teachings of Islam, the Holy Quran, the Prophet’s Sunnah, and the core values of society.

Migration, underscored by a special place in Islam, has been a recurring theme in the lives of revered prophets such as Musa (AS), Ibrahim (AS), and Muhammad (PBUH). The Afghan migrants, having lost their homeland to the ravages of war and natural calamities, arrived seeking shelter, invoking Pakistan’s national duty to extend care with dignity and respect.

Highlighting the historical bond between Pakistan and Afghanistan as fellow Muslim countries and neighbors with centuries-old brotherly ties, Imran Khan stresses the inevitability of mutual reliance as neighboring nations. He asserts that fostering deep, trust-based relationships with neighboring countries is pivotal for Pakistan’s long-term national security.

Despite Pakistan’s four-decade history of hosting Afghan migrants, Imran Khan laments the squandering of positive sentiments through shortsighted policies. With a population of 250 million, accommodating 1.5 million migrants is deemed a feasible and humane response.

Crucially, Imran Khan underscores that many Afghan migrants seeking refuge are among the poorest in society. Failure to address their plight with dignity, decency, and wisdom could sow negative emotions among the Afghan people, potentially leading to a permanent rift in the long-term relations between the two countries.

Imran Khan urgently calls for an end to the inhumane treatment of Afghan migrants, likening their current conditions to being herded like cattle. He advocates for an immediate shift toward dignified and respectful treatment, emphasizing the need for a long-term, principled solution rooted in justice.

In conclusion, Imran Khan’s plea resonates as a call for compassion, human decency, and a strategic vision to address the plight of Afghan migrants, safeguarding not only their dignity but also the enduring bonds between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
