Sajjad Burki represents PTI at APPNA convention in San Fransisco | Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
<p>Mr. Sajjad Burki represented PTI in the two political forums recently conducted in the recent Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA) &#160;convention in San Fransisco. The first event was held on July 3, 2009 and was conducted by the United Social Forum, a joint presentation of the Dow Medical Alumni, Khyber Medical Alumni, SMC Medical Alumni, Rawalpindi Medical Alumni and Quaid i Azam Medical Alumni. The subject was:<br /> &#160;<br /> Swat, A Paradise Lost or Heaven Gained<br /> &#160;<br /> The panelists included Dr. Babar Awan (PPPP), Mr. Makhdoom Javed Hashmi (PMN-N),<br /> Dr. Farooq Sattar (MQM), Haji M Adeel (ANP), Dr M Iqbal Khalil (JI), Sajjad Burki (PTI)Dr.Pervez Hoodbhoy, Mr. Shuja Nawaz. <br /> &#160;<br /> A second discussion was held by the same panel on July 4 under the banner of APPJD which is the political wing for APPNA. The topic for this session was:<br /> &#160;<br /> Pakistan In Search of Identity<br /> Constitutional Democracy or Taliban Shariah?<br /> &#160;<br /> Mr. Sajjad Burki represented PTIs stance and negated the Govt sponsored propaganda about the current military operation. He emphasized that Taliban are a political movement needing a political solution and debunked the current myth about labeling Imran Khan as a taliban sympathiser. He also questioned governments silence on the drone attacks, current compliance to all US policies and lack of governance in that region got tremendous applause. <br /> &#160;<br /> In the second forum questions from the moderator were addressed. These included:<br /> &#160;<br /> 1. Do political parties invite the Army to take over<br /> 2. Corruption at all levels in Pakistan<br /> 3. Was Pakistan created to be a theocracy<br /> &#160;<br /> Mr. Burki in this session questioned the corruption of the present regime, NRO, Musharrafs honorable sendoff, their role in the delay of the restoration of the Chief Justice and emphasized the importance of constitutional democracy with an independent judiciary in place. The highlight of the evening was when the Minister Mr. Babar Awan was asked to honor Mr. Minallah with a plaque. People from the audience insisted that instead of the Minister the PTI representative should do this honor.</p>
