23rd October 2023 News Headlines

A summary of today's important and breaking news regarding PTI and the country that the mainstream media of Pakistan will never show you.

  1. Today marks the 78th day since Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Prime Minister Imran Khan's unlawful imprisonment. Imran Khan is facing a series of false charges as part of an apparent effort to keep him incarcerated before the upcoming election, disregarding legal boundaries. The trial of the cipher case began today in Adiala Jail, with charges against both Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Chairman Imran Khan, addressing Judge Zulqarnain Abul Hasnat, expressed his concerns about the fairness of the trial, stating that these allegations are baseless, and he won't respond until witnesses testify. Consequently, Judge Zulqarnain Abul Hasnat adjourned the illegal jail hearing of the cipher case until October 27.
  2. The Supreme Court declared the trial of civilians in military courts unconstitutional. The Supreme Court accepted the petitions of Tehreek-e-Insaf and other prominent lawyers and declared Section 2-D1 of the Military Act unconstitutional. The Supreme Court gave the decision by a majority of 1-4. Civilians cannot be tried in military courts.
  3. The judges at Islamabad High Court have expressed their astonishment at the unjust treatment of Imran Khan. The court recently heard a case regarding the provision of facilities to Chairman Imran Khan and noted that there is no precedent for having 189 cases against a single individual. Imran Khan's sentence in the Tosha Khana case has been suspended, potentially paving the way for his release. The court questioned the reason for his mistreatment while in jail, highlighting that Imran Khan was only allowed to meet with his lawyers for half an hour each week, which is seen as contributing to an unfair trial. These remarks were made by Justice Hasan Aurangzeb.
  4. "Congratulations Mandela is back", Imran Khan's conversation with the special Court Judge. Chairman Imran Khan appeared before Special Court Judge Zulqarnain Abul Hasnat in Adiala Jail today and congratulated the judge on the return of fake Mandela. Imran Khan also argued before the judge on his fake cipher case that complete copies of the case were not given to them. Judge Zulqarnain Abul Hasnat also asked about providing a bicycle to Imran Khan, which was provided. The judge inquired Shah Mehmood Qureshi about the bed for him, to which Shah Mehmood Qureshi also gave a positive reply.
  5. On a single day, separate legal actions were taken in response to requests from Nawaz Sharif and Chairman Imran Khan. In Islamabad High Court, petitions were filed today by both individuals. Nawaz Sharif requested the revival of appeals related to the Al-Azizia and Avenfield references. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq promptly constituted a bench to hear the case, with the hearing scheduled for tomorrow. However, there has been no response to Imran Khan's request for an open trial instead of a jail hearing for the cipher case. Additionally, there is still no response to the intra-court appeal in Islamabad High Court regarding the appointment of a special court judge, and no pronouncement on judgments that have already been secured.
  6. A hearing took place in the Supreme Court regarding the conduct of elections within ninety days. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa presided over the case, and the court issued a notice to the Election Commission. The hearing has been adjourned until November 2, with an order for all lawyers to be present at the next hearing.
  7. Sanam Javed and Khadija Shah remain in prison despite being granted release orders by the courts. In Khadija Shah's case, the Lahore High Court held a hearing and summoned the CCPO Lahore, inquiring about the duration of Khadija Shah's imprisonment. The CCPO responded that it had been six months. The court expressed concern, questioning whether it had been decided not to release Khadija Shah. The court emphasized that if so, the law would take its course. Similarly, Sanam Javed is on bail in all her cases, yet she continues to be incarcerated.
  8. The Accountability Court in Islamabad acquitted Ishaq Dar in an asset beyond income case, while a Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Chairman Imran Khan, and his family, along with other PTI leaders, have faced imprisonment without any formal charges. This contrast highlights a perceived double standard in the justice system, with many individuals being detained for extended periods without clear evidence of wrongdoing. The public is expressing strong condemnation of this unequal treatment.
  9. Caretaker Prime Minister also started spewing venom against Tehreek-e-Insaf. Journalist Ameer Abbas, while commenting on the caretaker prime minister's press conference, said, "Prime Minister Kakar has openly expressed his bias against Tehreek-e-Insaf in the press conference today. He has defended Nawaz Sharif and was openly giving arguments against Tehreek-e-Insaf as if he were their fiercest political opponent. As a Judge, he has also pronounced a verdict against a party and its chairman. This system does not leave any illusions.
  10. The individual responsible for blocking the Tehreek-e-Insaf's workers' convention has been revealed to have a criminal record. Unconstitutional Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, justified the crackdown on the workers' convention by claiming that a criminal gathering couldn't be allowed. However, it has come to light that Mohsin Naqvi himself has a criminal record, as per NAB records.
  11. The worst fuel crisis in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) persists, resulting in the cancellation of dozens of flights. Today, PIA had to cancel 27 more flights. This series of flight cancellations has been ongoing for the past twenty days, causing significant financial losses for the national airline, running into millions of rupees.
  12. More than 630,000 Pakistanis left the country in the first nine months of this year. In the first nine months of this year, as of September, 633,108 Pakistanis applied for overseas employment, the data released by the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment. Due to ongoing fascism, lawlessness, lack of facilities, rising inflation, unemployment and loss of hope in Pakistan, every young citizen is looking to leave the country.
