CM KPK Addressing Golden Jobli Ceremony of Pakistan Forest Institute

The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has asked environmentalists to play their role in progress and prosperity of the society by focusing on the promotion of indigenous research to find out local, cost effective and sustainable solution to the environmental challenges faced by the province . This, he said while speaking at the golden jubilee ceremony of Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar on Monday. PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Provincial Ministers Shah Farman Khan, Mohammad Atif Khan, Special Assistant to CM for environment Ishtiaq Urmar, DG PFI, teachers and students attended the ceremony. Special Assistant to CM Ishtiaq Urmar, Secretary Environment, Syed Nazar Hussain Shah and DG PFI Hakim Shah addressed the ceremony. The DG , PFI, Hakim Shah while highlighting research and academic services of institution demanded up gradation of PFI to the status of forest University . The Chief Minister lauded the contribution of PFI in promotion of Forest research and forest education. He appreciated the endeavors of the institution in upbringing required skilled man power for the forest, live stock and other sectors. He said that the trained graduates of the institute were providing commendable services in the country and abroad as well.
Referring the steps taken by the provincial government for strengthening of PFI, the Chief Minister said that government was striving for maintenance of the infrastructure of the institute stretching across the country. He informed that Rs.271 million had been allocated for PFI in the current budget while in the next fiscal year Rs.396 would be earmarked for different projects of the institution.
The Chief Minister said climates changes and global warming were big challenges as its very harsh repercussions had been forecasted for Pakistan. “The Country was already faced with problems of low forest areas, drought, water logging and salinity”, he explained. He informed that due to the importance of climatic changes and environmental issues PTI had included in its manifesto. The Chief Minister said that Green Initiative Programme had been launched in province already while other steps were also being taken for the promotion of forests and improvement of environment.
The Chief Minister said the billion three project was the biggest and unique initiative for aforestation and overcoming environmental problems in the country. He informed that under the five year long project, one billion trees would be planted in the province, which he added apart from encouraging aforestation, improvement of environment and floods protection would also play positive role in boosting the economy of the province. He elaborated that 240 million sapling had been planted in the province up till now while the target of planting 340 million would be achieved in the province till the end of this year.
