| By Salman Shuaib | 993 Views | | News, Pakistan, Interview | PTI's stand is based purely on principle. Our decision was near unanimous after some debate. With the PCO imposed and the judiciary not only sidelined but also arrested on 3rd November, the election, from our point of view was rigged from the start. So participating in a process that legalizes unconstitutional actions, abandons the judiciary and has no real credibility with the people of Pakistan is meaningless to us. Whom would you approach if there was a violation of the election code when you know that even the CEC has been appointed by Musharraf himself?
And we are not alone in the Boycott, but part of the APDM which comprises 21 political parties. Though most of them are small parties but they represent a broad spectrum of public opinion. The regional parties from Sindh and Baluchistan, leftist, liberals, labour and religious parties are all represented in this. We are also working in close liaison with civil society groups and student action committees to promote the boycott amongst the public. A low turnout on election day will prove our point. | | Read

He said, “We cannot change our neighbours. We should have good neighbourly ties with India, Afghanistan and Iran without intervention. More importantly, our relationship with the United States should not be one of master and slave; it should be one of friendship.” | | Read

| By fmirza | 1605 Views | | International, US, Interview | NEW YORK -- Pakistan cricket legend Imran Khan has struggled over the past decade to gain traction for the minority political party he started called Tehreek-e-Insaf, or the Movement for Justice. Now, he sees Pakistan on the road to civil war unless the national elections Feb. 18 help restore an independent judiciary. He also calls on the U.S. to focus on backing a democratically elected government rather than President Pervez Musharraf, who began a new five-year term in November | | Read
